THE Osun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested a 22-year-old man for allegedly attempting to rape two women he caught stealing pepper from a farm in Osogbo.

According to the command’s spokesperson, Kehinde Adeleke, the farm in question did not belong to the suspect.

After confronting the women, he reportedly threatened to hand them over to security operatives unless they agreed to have sex with him.

While one of the women managed to escape, the suspect allegedly held down the other, assaulted her physically, and attempted to force himself on her.

In his statement, the suspect confessed to accosting the women at Ita-Olokan, Osogbo, and demanding sex as the only way to avoid reporting them.

He admitted that he did not fully carry out the act but lay on the victim and ejaculated, fearing that the other woman might return with help.

In a separate incident, the NSCDC announced the arrest of two individuals accused of encroaching on government land in the Oke-Osun area.

The suspects allegedly destroyed land demarcations and excavated sand for sale.

Investigations revealed that several truck drivers have been illegally mining sand from the area and selling it to unsuspecting buyers.

NSCDC State Commandant, Igbalawole Sotiyo, reaffirmed the corps’ commitment to tackling criminal activity and urged residents to report suspicious behaviour for prompt intervention.
