At least seven governorship aspirants of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State have withdrawn from the race following a high-level meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa on Wednesday.
The aspirants agreed to support Bola Oyebamiji as the party’s consensus candidate for the upcoming governorship primary.
However, former Deputy Governor and ex-National Secretary of the APC, Senator Iyiola Omisore, shunned the meeting and has continued to reject his disqualification from the race.
Appearing on Arise Television on Tuesday, Omisore condemned the party’s decision to disqualify him and six others, describing it as “a joke and an embarrassment.”
The former lawmaker argued that the party’s power to disqualify candidates is limited by law.
Omisore linked the controversy surrounding the primary to the factors that led to the APC’s loss in the 2022 Osun governorship election.
He fingered the Minister of Blue Economy and former Governor of the state, Gboyega Oyetola, for orchestrating their disqualification.

The meeting ended with a unanimous endorsement of Bola Oyebamiji as the APC’s consensus flagbearer. Oyebamiji, a former Commissioner for Finance in Osun State, is expected to face Governor Ademola Adeleke in the 2026 election.
