THE Lowa Adimula of Ile-Ife, Ademola Adeyeye, has declared that the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, holds a unique and unmatched position among Yoruba traditional rulers.

Speaking to journalists yesterday at the Ooni’s palace during his 70th birthday celebration, Adeyeye emphasized that the Ooni is not in competition with any other monarch. He described the Ooni as the spiritual and traditional leader of the Yoruba people, referring to him as their father.

“The Ooni is beyond comparison. He is the father of all traditional rulers, both in spiritual and traditional matters,” he stated.

Commenting on the security challenges facing Nigeria, the monarch criticized the current federal policing structure, noting a disconnection between the security system and traditional institutions.

“Our government is responsible for the prevailing insecurity. Excluding traditional institutions from community security structures is a recipe for failure,” he said.

He urged the federal government and the National Assembly to take swift action in granting constitutional roles to traditional rulers, similar to the roles they played in the past.

“It’s time to recognize the importance of traditional rulers in securing our communities. Implementing local solutions is key to tackling insecurity,” he added.
