A final-year female student of the Federal Polytechnic, Ede, Osun State, Kolawole Zainab, reportedly collapsed and died while getting ready to sit for one of the ongoing examinations on campus.

Reports indicate that Zainab, who was a mother of three, suddenly slumped while studying for the first-semester examination on Wednesday.

The exam, scheduled for 12 noon, was yet to commence when she was hurriedly taken to the institution’s medical centre.

Upon arrival at the health facility, she was confirmed dead.

According to a student of the polytechnic who spoke anonymously, Zainab was enrolled in the Department of Quantity Surveying.

“Her sudden death has thrown her classmates into mourning. We were to write an exam at 12 noon, even though we are not of the same department. I doubt if the examination in her class later held because the death happened minutes before the time of the examination,” the Higher National Diploma I student said.

Both staff and students of the institution have been thrown into mourning following the tragic loss.

One of the lecturers at the polytechnic, David Olufunsho Fagboungbe, also expressed his grief in a Facebook post.

He wrote with crying emojis, “Tears, agony and grief today as female HND QS student of Federal Polytechnics, Ede, and mother of 3 dies in the heat of ongoing first-semester examination.”
