Osun Senators’ Defection To APC Triggers Fresh Rumours Of Adeleke’s Exit From PDP

The recent defection of two Osun State senators elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has sparked a flurry of speculations regarding the political future of Governor Ademola Adeleke.

Naijaonpoint had earlier reported that Senators Francis Fadahunsi (Osun East) and Olubiyi Fadeyi (Osun Central) resigned from the PDP in separate letters dated June 21, 2025, citing “irreconcilable differences” within the party.

Following their exit, tension has gripped both PDP and APC camps in the state, as many believe Adeleke may be the next to jump ship.

The development has thrown the political space into a frenzy, especially among governorship hopefuls in the APC, some of whom are openly opposing Adeleke’s potential entrance into the party.

The ripple effect of the ongoing political tension has also reportedly stalled governance in Osun, with government activities grinding to a near halt in recent weeks.

According to Vanguard, the former Deputy Governor of Osun State and ex-National Secretary of the APC, Senator Iyiola Omisore, while reacting to the growing rumour, warned Governor Adeleke against what he described as an attempt to “join the APC through the backdoor.”

Omisore said, “The governor should talk to party leaders in the state rather than going to some governor colleagues to smuggle him into the APC. If the state chairman is not aware of his coming, the national chairman is not aware, then we party members are not sure he is coming to join us.”

While acknowledging that no one can stop Adeleke from joining the APC, Omisore emphasised the importance of proper political engagement and consultation.

On the contrary, Coordinator of the Tinubu-Shettima Ambassadors, Oladele Oyelude, threw his weight behind Adeleke’s alleged plan to join the ruling party. He described the governor as “a big addition” whose popularity could boost President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

“It would be wrong for leaders of the party, especially appointees of the President, to be seen to be trying to antagonise Governor Adeleke’s effort to join the APC. For now, he is still popular among the people, and that is a big plus for the President and the party. I think we should let him move into the party, and then we can negotiate other interests,” he said.
