Olusegun Dada, the Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Social Media has slammed a United States of America Congressman, Riley Moore over his comments indicating that there is a calculated genocide carried out against Christians in Nigeria.
Dada in a post on X, claimed that Moore was ignorant of some of the realities and way of life of Nigerians.
He said that all Nigerians, irrespective of their religion or ethnicity are treated as one.
Moore’s allegation comes on the heels of similar claims by another American lawmaker, Ted Cruz who proposed the Nigeria Religious Freedom Accountability Act in the US.
Cruz in his proposal called for sanctions against Nigerian leaders found complicit in the alleged killing of Christians across the country.
Following Cruz’s proposal, Moore had described Nigeria as “the deadliest country in the world for Christians” to live in.
“Since Boko Haram’s insurgency in 2009, more than 50,000 Christians have been murdered and more than 5 million displaced. At least 250 priests have been attacked or killed in the last decade and more than 19,000 churches have been attacked or destroyed since 2009.”
The American lawmaker further urged the US Secretary of State Marco Rubio to make efforts towards designating the most populous West African nation as a “Country of Particular Concern” due to allegations of persecution of Christians.
With the traction generated so far from Cruz’s proposal, Dada swiftly countered Moore’s recent claim, stating that Nigeria is a nation built on faith and the resilience of Nigerians.
He wrote on X, “Firstly, let me say, Congressman Riley, you are ignorant if not more ignorant than Ted Cruz about Nigeria.
Dada also noted that no religion practise in Nigeria is under siege as alleged by both US lawmakers.
The presidential aide also stated that the present administration led by President Tinubu is committed to unity and inclusivity for all communities.
“Our churches, mosques, and traditional shrines stand side by side — not as rivals, but as symbols of the unity that binds us.
”I hope #TuckerCarlson can ask #tedcruz this line of questions again, but this time about Nigeria. Ted Cruz wanted the states to go to war with Iran, but he didn’t know the population or the cultural makeup of Iran. Same total ignorance about Nigeria,” Dada added.
