Outer Worlds 2 Mod: More Skill Points per Level Unlocks New Possibilities

The Outer Worlds 2 officially releases tomorrow, but some of the first mods are already available thanks to Early Access. Obsidian’s follow-up to the 2019 hit sends players on a new adventure through the dangers of space and capitalism. The game is receiving generally positive feedback from early players, but any time PC games fall short, modders are ready to pick up the slack.

Mods have already started to pour out of the community, tweaking everything from companion behavior to camera angles and effects. But one mod in particular has risen to the top with over 9,000 downloads: goldenchrome’s More Skill Points per Level on Nexus Mods.

Experiment With More Skill Points

As the name implies, the More Skill Points per Level mod rewards players with more points to put into skills as they progress through the game. The mod gives players the option to set the number of points they want to receive, ranging from 3 to 10 or even a full 20 points per level.

Normally, players are only awarded between 58 and 64 skill points in total, depending on how you use certain special perks. This narrows down the gameplay options and requires players to distribute points strategically. With this mod, players get more freedom to play around with different builds and experience fewer restrictions.

Every level in the base game awards players two skill points. By setting the mod’s skill points option to 9 per level, you can even max out every skill by the end of the game. But the mod’s creator recommends going with three per level to “get a bit stronger but not too above the intended limits.

Popularity Of Outer Worlds 2 Mod May Mean Tweaks Down The Line

Obsidian May Take Note And Update The Balance

A game’s early successful mods are often a good indication of what players want from the game. Judging from player responses to the More Skill Points per Level mod, it seems that many players feel the base game’s skill points are simply not enough.

With just two points per level, players can only focus on a small number of skills. This, in turn, locks them into completing quests in a certain way and can keep players from completing optional content.

Developers frequently adjust a game’s balance after it’s released, so there’s a chance that Obsidian will take note of the popularity of this mod. When The Outer Worlds 2 launches tomorrow, on October 29, I wouldn’t be surprised to find skill point adjustments on the inevitable day-one patch notes.
