A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, has condemned a statement by former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, urging the party to offer its 2027 presidential ticket to erstwhile Anambra governor Peter Obi.
Naijaonpoint recalls that Fayose had warned that the ADC may slide into political irrelevance if it fails to present Obi as its presidential candidate.
Fayose made the assertion during an interview on Arise Television, where he described Obi as the only major political asset capable of giving the ADC national visibility.
According to him, other figures within the party lack the electoral weight to significantly influence voters nationwide.
The former governor said Obi’s political relevance was evident during the 2023 general election when his emergence as the Labour Party’s presidential candidate transformed the party from relative obscurity into a force that secured seats in the House of Representatives
Reacting to Fayose’s submission via a post on his 𝕏 handle on Monday, he likened the call to an outsider weeping louder than the bereaved.
He wrote, “As a matter of fact, I was really surprised to see my brother, former Governor Peter Ayodele Fayose, begging the ADC to field former Governor Peter Obi as its presidential candidate in 2027.
“Wonderful Lord! This is a classic case of an outsider weeping louder than the bereaved.”
