SUPER Eagles defender Ola Aina has opted to extend his contract at Nottingham Forest by signing a new deal.
The English Premier League club confirmed the contract extension today, months after speculation about the deal emerged.
“Nottingham Forest is delighted to confirm Ola Aina has signed a new deal, extending his stay until the summer of 2028,” the club stated on their official website.
“The Nigerian played a pivotal role in the team’s 24/25 campaign, starting in 35 of 38 Premier League games.
“Having spent much of the previous season at left-back, the versatile 28-year-old was deployed mainly on the right side of Forest’s solid defence throughout the season.
“His tireless defending saw him win possession in the defensive third more times than any other player in Europe’s top five leagues in the 2024/25 season.
“He also scored twice along the way to Forest’s seventh-place finish in the Premier League, including a memorable strike with his left foot in the 3-0 win against West Ham United at the City Ground.”
Aina joined Forest in the summer of 2023 from Serie A side Torino, going on to make 59 appearances for the Reds in all competitions.
Having played 100 times in the Italian top flight, Aina has plenty of experience playing at the highest level, needing just nine more games to reach a century in the Premier League.
On extending his contract, Aina said: “I’m over the moon, I can’t wait to continue this journey with the Club. It’s always felt like a home ever since I joined and I’m happy to be here.
“Now my focus is on preparing for the new season well and getting back to hard work.”
Forest owner, Evangelos Marinakis said: “Ola has skill, determination and character in abundance. He epitomises the culture and hard work we expect from everyone associated with Forest.
“He has had a big influence since his arrival here and we look forward to continuing that journey together to help us achieve incredible things.”
Chief Football Officer, Ross Wilson, added: “Since the moment Ola joined the Club, we have loved his influence and personality on the team. He’s someone we all enjoy working with every day.
“Everyone can see how much he gives the team on the pitch, and we also see every day what he brings off the pitch to our group. Ola shares our ambition and believes in the direction of the Club, and we are delighted he has further extended his time here.”
