Overwatch 2 Fan-Made Skin Contest Winners Announced

overwatch 2

A few weeks ago, the official CN side of Overwatch 2 hosted a fan-made skin contest, with all winning works having the chance to be added to the game sometime in the future. Being hosted under the theme ‘What if the Omnic crisis never happened, the recently announced winners showed off a new side of some familiar characters, alongside a few surprising contestants.

With the contest results being reposted by accounts like OWCalvalry on X, plenty of fans were in shock that Rammatra had somehow managed to win the contest by a landslide, with Wuyang, Kiriko, Juno, and Moira following behind. While there was some disappointment from fans of other characters that their favorite hero didn’t make the cut, each of the OW2 skins themselves has been praised for fantastic potential additions to the hero shooter.

Overwatch 2’s Skin Contest Has Surprising Results

While characters like Kiriko and Juno were practically expected to win any sort of skin comeptition based on their popularity in the community, Rammatra and Moira’s creative designs were still able to shine thanks to their creative designs. Showcasing the antihero in a full cleaning getup with all the attachments he would need as a home maid, the design even included a small logo for Rammatra’s personal cleaning business.

Although some of the entries posted by Reddit user The_Void_124 faced criticism over not exactly following the theme of the competition, others were praised, with players like vixiara saying they would “kill for Parking Ticket Zen”, although Rammatra’s was an especially creative take on the concept.

Given just how few skins Rammatra has in comparison to some of the more established characters of the past or recent fan-favorites, it would be a massively missed opportunity not to include skins like the winners of the contest in the full game at some point down the line.

Fan-Made Skins Could Fix The Biggest Problem With Overwatch 2’s Cosmetics

While it will likely take some time for the official Overwatch design team to edit and transfer Rammatra’s winning skin from the drawing into its fully animated in-game form, it’s one that will be well worth the wait, and could help chip away at one of Overwatch 2′s biggest complaints that has become a meme in the community at this point.

Even though it makes sense that OW2 would want to dedicate most of its cosmetic resources towards cash-cows like Kiriko, Juno, Mercy, the lack of risk-taking gets even harder to excuse when it comes to collaboration events.

With characters seemingly getting crossover skins based on how popular they are rather than how much they fit the source material, it’s not hard to see why there is so much controversy surrounding OW2‘s fantastic crossovers.

Even though many of OW2‘s fan-contest skins may never make their way into the game itself, hopefully, the results show there’s still demand for characters whose cosmetics have been left behind, or at least take full advantage of the creativity of the Overwatch 2 community with even more contests in the future.
