Panic gripped the Owo area of Ondo State on Saturday, November 15, 2025, after a loud explosion occurred near a commercial bank, sending residents and passersby scampering for safety.
Naijaonpoint reports that the explosion, which caused thick smoke to rise briefly from the scene, forced traders and shop owners to hurriedly shut their doors as confusion spread across the area.
The Ondo State Police Command on Sunday confirmed that one suspect had been arrested in connection with the incident.
Police spokesperson, Olusola Ayanlade, said the explosion was caused by a banger and identified the suspect as Ayoola Daniel Ojumu, a resident of Owo.
“One Ayoola Daniel Ojumu of Owo has been arrested in connection with the incident and has confessed to his role. His accomplice, who reportedly set off the banger, remains at large, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend them,” Ayanlade stated.
Ayanlade warned that the Command would not condone any act capable of causing panic, especially as the festive season approaches.
“Members of the public in Ondo State, particularly parents and guardians, are advised to prevail over their wards before, during, and after the festive period. The Police Command will take decisive action against any attempts to disrupt peace and public safety,” he said.
The spokesman urged residents to remain calm, vigilant, and prompt in reporting any suspicious activities.
“The suspect in custody will be charged to court upon conclusion of the investigation. The Command urges residents to remain vigilant and provide timely information to security agencies to enhance community safety,” he added.
Police operatives have intensified efforts to track down the fleeing accomplice.
