Oyo APC tackles LG chair for claiming ownership of project facilitated by deceased lawmaker

Oyo State chapter of All Progressives Congress, APC, has accused the Chairman of Ibadan North local government area, Seun Olufade of claiming ownership of a project facilitated by a former member of House of Representatives, late Musliudeen Olaide Akinremi.

APC made this accusation in a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Wasiu Olawale Sadare, a copy of which was made available to DAILY POST on Sunday.

Recall that Akinremi represented the Ibadan North Federal Constituency between 2019 and 2024 on the platform of APC, he was serving his second term in office before he died at the age of 51 on Wednesday, 10th July 2024 and was buried according to Islamic rites on Thursday, 11th July, 2024. 

Sadare, on behalf of APC has, however raised an alarm over an alleged attempt by Olufade, to claim a federal government sponsored project facilitated by the deceased lawmaker as his own.

In the statement, Sadare alleged that Olufade has concluded plans to commission the facility.

The APC noted that the project, a Cassava Processing Plant facilitated by the late Akinremi is located at Barika Area of Agbowo in Ibadan is being funded by the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology, Abuja.

He added that the project is an APC project and urged PDP members to steer clear of the project and other similar projects across the state.

“Meanwhile, the leadership of our great Party has uncovered the plan by the Chairman of Ibadan North LGA to roll out the drums this Friday in the name of commissioning a project which he knows next to nothing about with a view to misinforming the world and creating a false impression of a performing council chairman.

“The Cassava Processing factory located in Barika Area of Agbowo, Ibadan is a brainchild of the APC government at the centre aimed at empowering the people of the grassroots and at the same time, boost the efforts aimed at achieving food security.

“It is, therefore, wrong for the chairman to attempt playing a fast one on the residents of the state by laying a force claim on the project even when it is crystal clear that his administration could not have funded such a massive project because Gov Makinde has been the one spending the allocations meant for the 33 local government councils in the state since 2019.

Following the warning from APC, DAILY POST has sought a reaction from Olufade but all efforts have proved abortive.

Several calls put through his telephone number were not answered while a message sent to him through his WhatsApp number has not been replied as of the time of filing this report on Monday.
