THE Oyo State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old school gateman, Josiah Ayomide, for allegedly defiling a four-year-old pupil in Ibadan.

Police spokesperson, Adewale Osifeso, said the case came to light on August 29, 2025, when the victim complained of pains to her elder sister and later told her mother that the school gatekeeper had sexually assaulted her.

Following his arrest, the suspect reportedly confessed to the crime. A medical examination at the Police Clinic, Eleyele, confirmed that the child’s hymen was broken and revealed bruises and tenderness in her private parts.

Osifeso said the suspect would face prosecution after investigations are concluded.

In a separate case, the police also arrested two men, Azeez Kolawole and Isah Fatai, in the Soka Sanyo area of Ibadan for allegedly stealing goats with a Toyota Matrix car that had no number plate.

The duo, previously charged with similar offences, confessed to the crime. Efforts are ongoing to track down other members of their syndicate.

Other recent arrests by the Oyo police include suspected kidnappers, armed robbers, and hijackers.

The incident adds to the growing list of reported child sexual abuse cases in Nigerian schools, sparking renewed calls for stricter vetting of school staff and stronger child protection measures.
