OYO: Shops, properties damaged in Ibadan night fire

Fire

A fire outbreak late Tuesday, July 1, 2025, damaged several shops in a commercial complex along Alakia Isebo Road, Ibadan.

The fire, which began around 11:22 p.m., affected five out of 19 shops before officials of the Oyo State Fire Service arrived and extinguished the blaze.

The emergency response, led by fire officer Adesina Olusoji, successfully prevented the flames from spreading to adjacent properties.

According to a situation report by the Oyo State Fire Service, the cause of the fire was traced to an electrical surge that ignited nearby flammable materials.

Although five shops were damaged, fire personnel were able to salvage goods worth millions of naira.

The Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Agency, Moroof Akinwande, advised the public to always unplug electrical appliances when not in use, particularly after business hours, to prevent similar incidents.
