TWO people have died in a tanker fire at a filling station in the Orita Challenge area of Ibadan, Oluyole Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The incident was confirmed today by the Oyo State Fire Services Agency.

According to the agency’s General Manager, Yemi Akinyinka, the victims were the tanker driver and his motor boy. He explained that firefighters were deployed immediately after receiving an alert about the fire at 5:15 a.m.

“We got information about the GABSTAB Mega Petrol Station, Orita Challenge, fire incident at 5:15 a.m. and deployed our men immediately,” Akinyinka said. “Unfortunately, the driver and motor boy were burnt to death.”

Preliminary investigations suggest that the tanker driver lost control due to brake failure, causing the vehicle to spill its contents, which then ignited.

Akinyinka noted that the swift response from the Oyo State Fire Service and private fire service teams helped contain the fire before it could spread to nearby residential areas.

However, the driver and his assistant were unable to escape. Their remains were handed over to officers of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) at the scene.

The fire has been brought under control, and authorities have promised to provide further details as investigations continue.
