Bandits suspected to be Lakurawa terrorists have reportedly abducted the Deputy Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Samaila Bambu.
Naijaonpoint learnt that Bambu was abducted on Friday evening in his hometown, Bagudo, in the Bagudu Local Government Area of the state.
Confirming the incident to Punch, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ahmed Idris, said he is in touch with the Director of Security in the state.
He assured that the state government is on top of the situation and will ensure the Deputy Speaker’s release is safe.
He said, “Yes, I just got the information about the alleged abduction of the Deputy Speaker in his hometown this evening. I am in touch with the Director of Security in the state.
Once I get the details of what transpired, I will alert you very soon on the government’s position.
“I can assure you that the state government is on top of the situation and will ensure he is released safely.”
In related news, the Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, has cautioned against negotiating peace deals with bandits without taking necessary precautions.
Lawal warned that negotiating peace deals with armed groups while allowing them to retain their weapons undermines state authority and delays lasting stability.
He stated this on Wednesday during a lecture at the National Institute for Security Studies (NISS) in Abuja, where he addressed participants of the Executive Intelligence Management Course, EIMC, 18 on the theme, “Non-state Actors in Security Management: Issues, Challenges, and Prospects for Peace and Development in Africa, A Zamfara State Perspective.”
