Panic As Terrorists Attack Travellers On Kwara Road, One Killed In Kogi Ambush

Terrorists on Monday launched fresh attacks on travellers in Eruku, Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, forcing motorists to abandon their vehicles along the busy Eruku–Egbe road.

According to SaharaReporters, videos obtained showed long trucks and smaller vehicles parked by the roadside as commuters fled into surrounding bushes to escape the gunmen.

An eyewitness who spoke to SaharaReporters said the attackers remained active in the area as of Monday, urging travellers to steer clear of the road until security operatives take control.

The attack has heightened fear among residents and road users who rely on the route for interstate travel.

The incident comes barely 24 hours after terrorists ambushed a commercial bus along the Ayere–Kabba road in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State.

Sources told SaharaReporters that the attack happened around 5 pm on Sunday when gunmen opened fire on commuters travelling through the area.

A witness said some vehicles narrowly escaped the ambush, while several passengers were struck by bullets.

According to the source, “One person was confirmed dead at the general hospital, while others are receiving treatment for gunshot injuries.”

Residents say the Ayere–Kabba axis has become increasingly unsafe, with criminal gangs believed to be operating between Kogi and neighbouring Kwara State launching frequent attacks on travellers.
