Artistic director for the 2024 Paris Olympics, Thomas Jolly, said he is not inviting musicians to perform at the opening ceremony of the tournament based on their number of album sales.

The Paris Olympics artistic director stated this in response to comments made by world famous DJ David Guetta who said he was shocked for not being invited to perform at the opening ceremony on July 26.

When asked by AFP if he has been contacted to perform at the Olympics, the DJ said, “If you have the answer, please tell me, because I don’t understand at all.

“I am still between the fourth and 15th most listened to artist in the world.”

He emphasised, “Artist — not DJ.

“To give you an idea — for example, Beyonce, is around 40th to 50th — and yet no one called me.”

In response to David Guetta’s comments, the Paris Olympics artistic director said in a press conference that the musician’s type of music is not in line with what he plans for the opening ceremony.

“We don’t base artistic direction simply on the number of album sales,” Jolly said.

“I have nothing against David Guetta or against anyone. I am not here to give my tastes. And David Guetta, quite simply, what he does as art does not relate to what we want to do.”
