Singer Paul Okoye, also known as Rudeboy, has expressed his serious concerns regarding the harmful use of social media among Nigerian youths.
The “Reason With Me” hitmaker warned that those who engage in mischievous behavior on social media for clout are on a dangerous path that could lead to destruction.
On his Instagram Story, he stated, “Social media is going to destroy a lot of people. You might think it’s just for fun, clout, or to trend, but your eyes will be opened eventually.”
Social media usage in Nigeria remains largely unregulated, as there is currently no official regulatory body overseeing it. There have been calls for social media regulation in response to widespread incidents of cyberbullying, fake news, hate speech, and defamation.
A bill proposing the regulation of social media in Nigeria was introduced in the National Assembly, but it received mixed reactions, which significantly impacted its chances of passing. The bill also faced considerable criticism on social media.
