Nigerian striker Paul Onuachu has taken a major step in his road to recovery by resuming individual training sessions at Trabzonspor’s pre-season camp, Footynaija.com reports.

The 31-year-old forward had been ruled out after sustaining a painful blow to his left ankle during a friendly clash in Nakhchivan, which led to bone edema — a serious swelling in the bone tissue of his foot. That setback temporarily paused his preparations for the 2025/26 campaign and Onuachu was expected to miss the first few days of the new season.

But there is now renewed optimism in the Trabzonspor camp, as the Nigeria international appears to have recovered quicker than expected.

According to Taka Gazete, Onuachu was spotted jogging under the supervision of a fitness coach and physiotherapist during a recent morning session, while also closely monitoring his team’s friendly against Persepolis from the sidelines.

The towering attacker has been placed on a carefully designed training programme by the club’s medical and technical staff. If he continues progressing at his current rate, he is expected to rejoin full team training in the coming days.

The reporte reveal Onuachu has displayed an admirable level of enthusiasm and focus during his rehab, which has not gone unnoticed by the coaching staff.

His return will be a major boost for Trabzonspor, who are keen to hit the ground running when the new season kicks off.

Onuachu, known for his aerial prowess and clinical finishing, will be central to their attacking plans once fully fit.

The Super Eagles star joined Trabzonspor permanently this summer from Southampton.
