The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) have strongly condemned the attack on Government Girls’ Comprehensive Senior Secondary School, Maga, in Danko Wasagu LGA of Kebbi state.
On Monday morning, bandits killed the school’s vice-principal, Hassan Yakubu Makuku, and abducted 25 students during the raid.
Ini Ememobong, PDP national publicity secretary, said the attack underscores the “alarming rise in insecurity” across Nigeria.
He said the federal government under President Bola Tinubu has “preferred the politicisation of governance over the protection of citizens”.
Ememobong added that the government must accept responsibility for failing to protect lives and property.
He extended condolences to the family of the late vice-principal, to the parents of the abducted students, and to the Kebbi state government.
The former Akwa Ibom commissioner noted that recent abductions in Nasarawa, Plateau, Kano and Katsina states show that insecurity “is clearly not the hope promised Nigerians”.
Bolaji Abdullahi, ADC national publicity secretary, described the incident as “another painful reminder of the worsening insecurity across the country”.
Abdullahi said the ADC has consistently warned the federal government to tackle insecurity with “seriousness and urgency”, but that the administration has instead “turned a blind eye to the suffering of ordinary Nigerians”.
He stressed that the current abduction must not become a repeat of the 2014 Chibok tragedy.
According to him, a government that cannot secure its schools cannot claim credibility in its promise to protect Nigerians.
He urged President Tinubu to ensure the rescue of the students “without delay” and called on security agencies to act with “urgency, clarity, and competence”.
He further advised the government to deploy all available intelligence resources and enhance coordination across security formations.
Earlier, Mohammed Idris, minister of information and national orientation, said President Tinubu has ordered the immediate rescue of the abducted schoolgirls.
“Our security and intelligence agencies have been issued clear directives to locate, rescue, and safely return the students, and to ensure that the perpetrators face justice,” Idris said in a statement.
