PDP aims to produce more governors by 2027 – NWC

During a visit to Bayelsa State Governor Senator Douye Diri at his residence in Sampou, Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area, the party leadership expressed confidence in its future.

Alhaji Ahmed Yayare, the National Treasurer speaking for the NWC, attributed the party’s optimism to widespread dissatisfaction in the country stemming from ongoing economic challenges.

He emphasized that the PDP is the only effective opposition capable of unseating the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027, warning that failure to do so could threaten democracy in Nigeria.

“Nothing prevents the PDP from securing both the presidency and vice presidency in 2027. The cries of hunger and poverty are too loud to ignore,” he stated.

“The 36 states are eager for the PDP’s return. The APC struggles to campaign due to public backlash. Nigeria’s future is in your hands, and we need your support to revive the nation.”

Yayare also mentioned plans to travel to PDP states to gather support ahead of the 2027 elections, urging governors to unite to achieve their goals.

The NWC visit was also a gesture of condolence to Senator Diri for the passing of Deputy Inspector General of Police (rtd) Moses Jituboh and Commissioner for Women Affairs, Elizabeth Bidei.

PDP National Secretary Ude Okoye noted that the NWC is committed to revitalizing the party and proving to Nigerians that they offer a credible alternative for quality leadership. He assured that the NWC would take steps to strengthen the party and ensure respect for it and its governors.

Okoye lauded Diri for his strong leadership and significant developmental achievements in Bayelsa, expressing pride in his accomplishments.

In response, Governor Diri emphasized the importance of unity among the party and its governors as the primary opposition force.

“As governors, we must collaborate closely and prioritize doing what is right, regardless of personal interests. Building consensus is essential for resolving issues, and we should avoid resorting to courts for grievances. If we allow the PDP to falter, future generations will not forgive us.”

Diri pledged his support for the party and stressed that he is not interested in creating divisions within the PDP.

“If anyone feels greater than the party, they are welcome to leave. The PDP has shaped many of us, and we cannot be part of the party during the day and switch allegiance at night. We must conduct internal reforms.”

He expressed support for the idea of forming a major coalition with the PDP at the forefront to reclaim power at the national level and urged his fellow governors to strengthen the party to address the nation’s current challenges.
