The National leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has named the suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, as a member of the party’s 2025 National Convention Organising Committee.

Recall that Governor Fubara, who was suspended on March 18, 2025 by President Bola Tinubu, through an emergency rule declaration, is still under suspension.

The six-month suspension order slammed on the Rivers governor by President Tinubu, will expire on September 17, 2025.

The Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, was named the chairman the 1100-member National Convention Organising Committee.

The decision gives effect to the resolution taken at the party’s last National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.

The elective national convention is billed to hold in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital from 15th through 16th November, 2025.

The Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, was named the deputy chairman, according to a notice issued on Monday by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba.

The committee has been given the mandate to coordinate events leading to the national convention.

Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah will serve as Secretary of the committee while many other prominent chieftains are members.

The members include former Special Duties Minister, Tanimu Turaki; PDP Board of Trustees chairman, Adolphus Wabara; PDP acting national chairman, Umar Damagum; and deputy national chairman, Taofeek Arapaja.

PDP National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu; former Vice President, Namadi Sambo; Bauchi State Governor, Bala Muhammed; Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde; and Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State are also members.

Secretary of the Board of Trustees, Ahmed Makarfi; Plateau State Governor, Caleb Muftwang; Taraba State Governor, Kefas Agbu; Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal; former Senate President, Bukola Saraki; and former Niger Governor, Babangida Aliyu also made the list.

The PDP had, last week, inaugurated a 44-member Zoning Committee for the convention, with Governor Diri as its chairman and Governor Dauda Lawal as his deputy.

The zoning committee is to come up with zoning arrangements for the various elective positions for a new set of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).

By implication, the committee will also decide which zone, between the North and the South, will produce the next national chairman.

The PDP has reverted to the alternation of the presidential ticket and the national chairmanship between the North and the South.

In this instance, if the chairmanship is zoned to the North, then the South will produce the presidential candidate and vice versa.
