The Deputy National Legal Adviser of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Okechukwu Osuoha, has assured that the party’s National Convention slated for November 15–16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State, will go ahead as planned despite allegations of forgery and a pending court case.
Speaking with Vanguard in Abuja on Sunday, Osuoha admitted that the matter was already before the court but expressed optimism that it would not derail preparations.
He said, “My brother, you know that the matter is already in court. And in law, whenever a matter is before the court, you don’t comment on it because it amounts to what’s called sub judice.
“Yes, I believe the next adjourned date is sometime next week. Let’s see how things go. The case is still pending in court, but everybody is hopeful. By the grace of God, we’ll survive it and still go ahead with the convention.”
Osuoha’s remarks come amid a fresh petition by the National Secretary of the party, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, who accused some party officials of forging his signature on an official letter to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
In his petition dated October 15, 2025, and addressed to the Department of State Services (DSS), the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), and INEC, Anyanwu denied signing or authorising the said letter.
He wrote, “My attention has been drawn to an official letter to INEC with Ref. No. PDP/DOM/GF.2/Vol.1M/25–140 dated August 25, 2025, purportedly signed by me. Regrettably, the quoted letter was never signed, authorised, or known to me. It is shocking to have a forged or cloned version of my signature on the letter.”
The embattled secretary called for a full investigation to identify and prosecute those behind the alleged forgery.
The controversy highlights the deepening cracks within the PDP’s leadership, particularly between Senator Anyanwu and the Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Damagum.
The internal wrangling, rooted in the fallout of the 2023 presidential primaries that produced former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has continued to split the party as it prepares for the November convention, where 19 new National Working Committee members are expected to emerge.
