The leadership crisis plaguing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is escalating by the day.

In the latest development, the mainstream party has written to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) informing the electoral body of the suspension from office of the National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu.

The letter was signed by the PDP National Chairman, Umar Damagum and a faction of the members of the National Working Committee (NWC).

Others listed with Anyanwu are the National Organising Secretary, Umar Bature; National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade; and Deputy National Legal Adviser,
Okechukwu Osuoha.

The letter to INEC, dated 4th November, 2025, stated that Anyanwu and the three national officers were suspended on Saturday, 1st of November, 2025, for alleged anti-party activities.

Recall that another faction of the NWC, led by Anyanwu, had, in a counter move, suspended Damagum and four other national officers.

Other officers purportedly suspended by the Anyanwu camp, are the Deputy National Chairman (South), Taofeek Arapaja; National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba;
National Financial Secretary, Daniel Woyenguikoro; National Youth Leader, Sulaiman Kadade; and Deputy National Secretary, Setonji Koshoedo.

Anyanwu, who addressed journalists on Saturday on behalf of the group, announced the PDP National Vice Chairman (North Central), Mohammed Abdulrahman, as the Acting National Chairman.

The development led to the invasion of the PDP national secretariat by the camp of Anyanwu, with the “acting national chairman, Mohammed claiming to have assumed office.

The Anyanwu group, backed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike consequently locked the gates to the two entrances leading to the secretariat.

The lockout was sequel to a protest by supporters of the Wike camp earlier in the day, coordinated by Anyanwu, with the assistance of truck loads of armed police personnel.

As of the time of filing this report, party secretariat remained deserted as all secretariat workers had been chased away, with policemen personnel taking over the premises.
