The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has vowed to go ahead with its scheduled National Convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 15 and 16, 2025.
This is despite two different court orders which had barred the party from going ahead with its convention as planned.
However, in a statement on Wednesday, the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, who also doubles as the Secretary Publicity and Communication Sub Committee of the party’s 2025 National Convention Organizing Committee (NCOC), said the convention would go ahead as planned.
He urged members of the public and party faithfuls to disregard claims that the convention has been postponed.
“The National Working Committee (NWC) and the 2025 National Convention Organizing Committee (NCOC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) informs all party members and the general public that the 2025 National Convention of the PDP has not been postponed but will go on as scheduled on Saturday, 15th to Sunday, 16th November, 2025 in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital,” the statement read.
Ologunagba also accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of being behind attempts to stop the convention in order to advance its one-party state objective in Nigeria.
“The NWC and the NCOC urges Party members and Nigerians in general to disregard misleading claims being peddled to the contrary by some individuals who, it has been revealed, are recruited by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in its failed attempt to stop the PDP National Convention.
“We are aware of the plots by the APC to destabilize the opposition and impose a one-party state in the country; a design that will be lawfully resisted.
“The NCOC and the Party will continue to work assiduously round the clock to ensure a successful National Convention in Ibadan as scheduled,” it added.
The statement concluded by thanking Nigerians for their support and appreciating party members who have already started arriving in Ibadan for the convention.
“While thanking Nigerians for their overwhelming support for our Party, the NCOC welcomes all delegates, Party leaders, officials and all supporters of the PDP who have already started arriving Ibadan for the National Convention,” the statement concluded.
Naijaonpoint recalls that the Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday, ordered the PDP to stop its planned National Convention until the substantive suit filed by former Governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, is determined.
The order was given in a ruling on a suit filed by Lamido challenging his inability to get the PDP Nomination Form to contest for the National Chairmanship position despite paying for the Form.
Naijaonpoint reports that the court further ruled that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) should not participate in any activities relating to the convention in Ibadan or anywhere in Nigeria.
Earlier, the court had also stopped the PDP from proceeding with its National Convention based on a suit filed by three party members, Austin Nwachukwu (Imo PDP chairman), Amah Nnanna (Abia PDP chairman), and Turnah George (South-South PDP Secretary) filed a suit, alleging a breach of the party’s constitution in the convention’s preparation.
