A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Sani, has stated that members expelled during the party’s National Convention are no longer considered a faction and cannot expel any other person from the party.
Umar made this remark on Friday during an interview on Arise Television’s Morning Show, monitored by DAILY POST.
He emphasized that the PDP did not expel anyone in secret, noting that a motion was moved, seconded, and passed at the convention.
The PDP stalwart further explained that no court in Nigeria has declared the convention illegal, meaning that its outcome is final.
“First and foremost, a party member who has been expelled at the national convention has no right whatsoever to go into hibernation and then draw up a list claiming, ‘we have expelled other people.’
“We did not expel them in hiding. We didn’t just go and write names and expel them. A motion was moved at the convention, it was seconded, and that motion was passed at our national convention.
“No court in the land, nor anywhere else, has ever declared that convention illegal, null and void, or of no effect. So the outcome of a convention is final. To put it even more clearly, at the convention, the National Working Committee (NWC) of Umar Damagum, through a motion moved by the Governor of Plateau State, proposed the dissolution of the NWC.
“And once dissolved, you no longer function as an official of the party. Immediately after the election, the Kabiru Turaki-led NWC was sworn in, and once sworn in, they began work immediately,” he said.
