WATCH THE VIDEO HERE GOVERNORS of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) convened today in Asaba, the Delta State capital, where they advised the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) to shift the upcoming NEC meeting to March 13, 2025. This resolution was outlined in a communique issued after the meeting, which was attended by 12 PDP governors and signed by Bauchi State Governor and Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Bala Mohammed. According to the communique, the governors assessed the performance of PDP-led states, national affairs, and party developments at the close of 2024. They acknowledged the significant socio-economic, security, and infrastructural challenges facing the country and commended PDP governors for implementing policies aimed at alleviating hardship and fostering sustainable development in their states. The governors also expressed support for ongoing efforts to resolve the dispute within the NWC regarding the position of the National Secretary. They approved the Court of Appeal’s ruling on the matter and urged the NWC to take necessary steps for its implementation. Additionally, after reviewing the legal requirements for convening a valid NEC meeting, the governors advised the NWC to reschedule the gathering for March 13, 2025. Initially, the NWC, led by PDP Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum, had postponed the NEC meeting twice in the past three months—a decision met with opposition from the Board of Trustees (BoT). The meeting was eventually set for February 2025. Comprising of state governors, serving and former presidents, ex-vice presidents, the chairman and secretary of the BoT, principal officers of the National Assembly, state party chairmen, NWC members, former governors, and party founding members, among others, NEC remains PDP’s highest decision-making body.
