‘PDP Is Dead, Lamido Will Soon Join APC’ — Ganduje

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has debunked claims he is planning to return to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He described the reports as unfounded and illogical.

Ganduje who was reacting to a comment credited to former Governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Sule Lamido, who predicted that the APC would disintegrate and that defectors from the PDP, including Ganduje, would eventually return.

The APC National Chairman dismissed the comment as baseless, saying it is Lamido who may soon find himself seeking refuge in the APC.

Speaking through his Chief Press Secretary, Edwin Olofu, in a statement issued on Monday in Abuja, Ganduje insisted there is no rationale for leaving what he called a thriving ruling party for a “failing opposition.”

“Rather than me going to the PDP, we will soon receive Sule Lamido into our fold. Very soon, he won’t have anywhere to go. The PDP is dead,” Ganduje said.

He went further to predict the complete collapse of the PDP by the end of 2025, and cited persistent internal crises within the opposition party.

“It is evident to any discerning observer that under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the APC continues to gain momentum, with prominent political figures across the country defecting to the party in large numbers,” the statement read.

The APC chairman stressed that the party is focused on consolidating its achievements and preparing for what he described as a “resounding victory” in the 2027 general elections.

Ganduje reiterated his commitment to leading the APC, which he described as the largest political party in the country and Sub-Saharan Africa, with a focus on deepening internal democracy and promoting sustainable governance.

He also advised Lamido to focus on resolving the PDP’s internal challenges rather than engaging in speculative commentary.

Ganduje however assured Nigerians that the APC remains united, focused, and committed to delivering on its mandate.
