The lawmaker representing Aliero/Gwandu/Jega Federal Constituency of Kebbi State, Mansur Musa, has formally defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), citing deep internal divisions and the need for effective representation.
Naijaonpoint reports that his defection was announced on Tuesday on the floor of the House of Representatives after Speaker Tajudeen Abbas read Musa’s letter of notification.
In the letter, Musa stated that his decision followed “prayerful reflection” and extensive consultation with his constituents, local leaders, and political stakeholders.
“In recent months, the PDP has been overwhelmed by deep-seated internal fractures, persistent conflicts and unresolved crises that have eroded unity, weakened organisational discipline and made it impossible for the party to provide credible leadership,” the letter read.
He said the continued divisions in the PDP made it incompatible with the expectations of his constituents.
“These divisions have created an environment incompatible with my mandate and the expectations of the good people of my constituency,” he said.
Explaining his choice of the APC, Musa said the ruling party offers “a more coherent and disciplined platform” that is better aligned with the developmental needs of his constituency.
“The APC offers a more coherent and disciplined platform, one that aligns better with the aspirations of our constituency and provides the stability required for meaningful governance,” he said.
Describing the defection as “an act of responsibility,” he added, “It is rooted in principle, standing by faith, and anchored by the overriding need to serve my people without incompetence.”
Following the announcement, Speaker Abbas and other lawmakers officially welcomed Musa into the APC fold.
He requested that the House update its records to reflect his new party affiliation and prayed for divine guidance.
“May Almighty Allah guide all our decisions and strengthen our resolve to serve the nation faithfully,” he wrote.
Musa’s exit is the latest in a string of defections from the PDP, which has recently been battling internal turmoil and rival factions aligned with figures such as Nyesom Wike and Tanimu Turaki.
