PDP Northern Leaders Endorse Turaki As Consensus National Chair Candidate

Kabiru Tanimu Turaki

Northern leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have thrown their weight behind former Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Kabiru Turaki, endorsing him as the consensus candidate for the position of the party’s national chairman.

Naijaonpoint reports that the endorsement came during a stakeholders’ meeting held in Abuja on Wednesday night, attended by top PDP figures including Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, and the party’s acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum.

The PDP National Convention, where new members of the National Working Committee (NWC) will be elected, is scheduled for November 15 and 16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State.

However, the build-up to the convention faces challenges. A suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/2120/2025 has been filed at the Federal High Court, Abuja, seeking to halt the exercise.

The plaintiffs, Austine Nwachukwu, PDP chairman in Imo State; Amah Abraham Nnanna, chairman in Abia State; and Turnah George, PDP South-South Secretary, are asking the court to restrain the party from going ahead with the convention.

The case, believed to have the backing of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, is expected to be heard on October 31, 2025.

In August, the PDP National Executive Committee (NEC) resolved to zone its presidential ticket to the South. By the party’s tradition, the national chairman is therefore expected to emerge from the North, paving the way for Turaki’s endorsement.
