The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed comments by former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Bode George, who claimed that former President Goodluck Jonathan had a better record in office than late President Muhammadu Buhari and President Bola Tinubu.
In a statement on Thursday, APC spokesman in Lagos, Seye Oladejo, described George’s remarks as laughable and an attempt at “desperate revisionism” aimed at rewriting history and misleading Nigerians.
George had, in an interview with Arise Television, argued that Jonathan’s tenure outperformed those of Buhari and Tinubu, citing worsening economic indices under the current administration.
He said inflation, the naira’s depreciation, and rising food prices had made life unbearable for Nigerians, insisting Jonathan’s presidency was much better than Buhari and Tinubu together.
But responding, the Lagos APC accused George of hyping Jonathan’s record in office, adding that Nigerians remember the Jonathan administration more for squandered oil wealth, missing billions, oil theft, insecurity, and impunity.
Oladejo stressed that Buhari, despite challenges, restored the integrity of the armed forces, strengthened anti-corruption campaigns, and revived abandoned infrastructure projects, while Tinubu is now confronting the structural rot left behind by Jonathan and his ilk through reforms such as subsidy removal, foreign exchange liberalisation, food security measures, and infrastructural renewal.
He said George’s constant attacks on leaders reveal inconsistency and lack of principle, tagging him a bread and butter politician who switches loyalties depending on personal interests.
“Chief George has made a career out of political flip-flopping – praising and attacking different leaders at will, depending on which side of his bread is buttered. His inconsistency betrays a lack of principle and exposes him as a man driven not by patriotism but by bitterness and personal grievances,” Oladejo said.
“For the record, Chief George is a political paperweight in Lagos – a man who has never won his polling unit, ward, or local government for his party. He should also provide for public scrutiny his records as the so-called leader of the opposition PDP in Lagos, a party perpetually in crisis, one that only comes together during electioneering season to share the crumbs of election funds. A man that cannot maintain a peaceful and stable homestead should humbly keep mute at town hall meetings.”
The statement added that George’s support for Jonathan only reminds Nigerians why the PDP was rejected at the polls.
Oladejo advised the PDP chieftain to spare Nigerians his constant outbursts, saying the nation has moved on.
“His defence of Jonathan only reminds Nigerians why the PDP was roundly rejected at the polls. History is clear: Jonathan’s record was one of waste and failure, Buhari stabilized, and Tinubu is reforming. Nigeria is in safe hands.
“If we are to accept the erroneous belief that politicians have no retirement age, perhaps they do have an expiry date – and Chief George’s shelf life in Nigeria’s political space expired long ago. He would do well to finally bow out gracefully and spare Nigerians his constant outbursts, distortions, and bitter tirades. The nation has moved on – and so should he.
“And if Chief George insists on entertaining himself with such fairy tales, he should be reminded that Nigerians have long woken up from that nightmare,” he said.
