Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has offered thanks to God after returning to office following months of political crisis.
Fubara attended his first Sunday service at Saint Paul’s Anglican Church in his hometown of Opobo, Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area. He was joined by his wife, Valerie, and several political stakeholders.During the service, the governor acknowledged God’s faithfulness to his family, the state, and the country. He also used the occasion of the International Day of Peace to call for calm as his administration resumes its duties.Sharing his reflections after the service, Fubara wrote, “In thanksgiving and to glorify God Almighty for His boundless mercy, divine guidance and steadfast love, my wife and I had the honour of worshipping at our home church, St. Paul’s Cathedral, Opobo Kingdom.
“The service was also a moment to sincerely appreciate the church and the good people of Rivers State, whose fervent prayers remain our reservoir of strength and courage on this journey of service.As we commemorate International Peace Day today, we will continue to walk together in harmony, guided by faith, unity and a sense of purpose. To God alone be the glory.”The thanksgiving came days after the federal government lifted the state of emergency declared in Rivers earlier this year.In March, President Bola Tinubu had ordered the emergency rule following a prolonged political standoff between Fubara and his predecessor, now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
After his reinstatement, the governor described the period as “enormously challenging” but said he chose to comply with the declaration to give room for peace to return.
