Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has expressed satisfaction with the growing atmosphere of peace in the state, saying reconciliation efforts are beginning to yield positive results.
Naijaonpoint reports that Fubara, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, stressed that genuine development could only thrive where unity and stability are guaranteed.
The governor spoke on Saturday at a civic reception in honour of his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu, held at Government Secondary School, Akabuka, in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area (ONELGA).
Encouraging residents to embrace peace fully, the governor said, “We can’t develop in an environment of chaos. We can’t attract any project to Akabuka when there is a problem. Our disposition has always been towards maintaining peace because it is the only way we can move forward.”
Reflecting on the state’s political turbulence, Fubara noted that political actors who previously avoided each other are now attending events together, which he described as evidence that “peace has truly returned to Rivers State.”
The governor announced plans to rehabilitate internal roads and renovate Government Secondary School, Akabuka.
“As soon as we leave here, the process for assessing the internal roads will commence. The Ministry of Education will also inspect this school, and we will take prompt action,” he stated.
Fubara also thanked the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for his role in his emergence as governor, adding that he did not take the support for granted.
Odu Expresses Gratitude
In her remarks, Deputy Governor Odu described the reception as overwhelming, saying the turnout reflected the peace, unity, and love in her community.
She thanked Fubara, President Bola Tinubu, Wike, and former Rivers governor, Peter Odili, for their roles in her political journey.
Odu highlighted cultural features at the event, including a 21-cannon salute and the rare appearance of Ebukele, a traditional performance said to occur only once in a decade, which she described as proof of Akabuka’s appreciation.
Chairman of the occasion, Prof. Jason Osai, hailed Odu as “a delightful personality who has brought honour to Akabuka,” while ONELGA Chairman, Shedrack Ogbogu, said the celebration marked the beginning of greater recognition for her in the local government.
