WATCH THE VIDEO HERE The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 elections, Peter Obi, has called for the arrest and prosecution of individuals promoting genocidal threats against the Igbo community in Lagos. On Friday, Obi expressed deep concern over the ultimatum circulating on social media, demanding that Igbos vacate Lagos and other South-West states. Describing the situation as “deeply disturbing,” Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, condemned the divisive rhetoric and emphasized the importance of unity in Nigeria. He stated, “Immediate action should be taken to investigate, arrest, and prosecute those behind this heinous agenda, serving as a deterrent to others who might consider pursuing similar paths that threaten our national security and unity. Obi highlighted the constitutional right of every Nigerian to live and work freely anywhere in the country, warning that such threats undermine national cohesion. He urged authorities to show leadership by speaking out against divisive rhetoric and protecting the rights of all citizens. “We must stand united against this divisive rhetoric and champion unity, tolerance, and understanding,” Obi stated. “Our future depends on our ability to live and work together harmoniously.” He called on the government and security agencies to act swiftly to protect this fundamental principle and ensure that every Nigerian can live without fear of discrimination or persecution. Obi stressed that the nation’s challenges should not be allowed to create divisions among its people.
