Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has criticised President Bola Tinubu over his frequent foreign travels amid Nigeria’s worsening electricity crisis.
Obi recalled Tinubu’s 2022 campaign promise that Nigerians should deny him a second term if he failed to deliver steady electricity within four years.
He noted that the national grid collapsed twice in January 2026 alone, with the month yet to end.
According to him, the grid also failed about 12 times in 2025, a development he described as deeply worrying for the country.
Obi also faulted the President’s latest trip to Turkey, drawing comparisons between both countries’ power capacity.
He said Turkey, with about 87 million people, generates over 120,000 megawatts of electricity, while Nigeria struggles with less than five per cent of that output.
The former Anambra State governor urged the President to remain in the country and confront pressing national challenges.
He warned that governance was being sidelined for politics, and called on Nigerians to demand accountability and responsible leadership.
