Peter Obi Declares Loyalty To Labour Party, Reaffirms 2027 Presidential Ambition

The 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has reaffirmed his membership of the party, despite his involvement in a coalition movement that adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its platform for the 2027 elections.

Speaking in Anambra State on Friday during the campaign flag-off for the party’s governorship candidate, George Moghalu, and his running mate, Lady Ifeoma Okaro, Obi said it was important to clear the air on what he described as “confusions making the rounds.”

Obi said, “Let me put it categorically clear. I and the National Assembly members of the Labour Party are part of the coalition that has adopted ADC for the 2027 election… But today, we are members of the Labour Party.”

Addressing speculations about his political alignment, Obi stressed that his commitment to the Labour Party remains intact, even as he collaborates with other opposition leaders to form a united political front ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“If anybody asks you which party Peter Obi belongs to today, tell them Peter Obi is in the Labour Party. If anybody asks you about the coalition, tell them the coalition is for 2027,” he told the crowd.

He also reaffirmed his ambition to run again for the presidency in 2027, declaring confidently, “Everyone has the right to run for president; I won’t stop anyone. But if anyone asks, let them know I am in the race, and no one does it better than me.”

Moghalu Promises Inclusive, God-Fearing Leadership

In his address, the Labour Party’s candidate for the November 8, 2025, Anambra governorship election, George Moghalu, pledged to lead with integrity and a commitment to the people.

“We will govern Anambra with the fear of God and rely heavily on the grace of God,” Moghalu said.

He assured residents that his administration would adopt qualitative governance and responsible tax systems, vowing not to deploy thugs against citizens under the guise of revenue collection.

He said, “Although my administration will ask people to pay tax, we will never unleash pestle-wielding touts on the good people of the state.

“Let us unite with purpose and resolve to shape a brighter and more inclusive Anambra. Together, we move forward—for the people, and with the people.”

Also speaking at the rally, the Anambra State Chairman of the Labour Party, Ugochukwu Emeh, stated that the gathering aimed to reinforce the party’s grassroots strength and commitment to equity, good governance, and people-oriented leadership.
