The governor, Cental Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Olayemi Cardoso, CBN, has expressed that the apex bank is committed to creating an environment where new ideas can flourish under prudent oversight, and where inclusion is at the heart of its endeavours.
He stated this on the sidelines of the 2025 Annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, in Washington, DC.
The strategic session with Nigerian CEOs of fintech companies was held on Tuesday, where he underscored the CBN’s pro-innovation stance.
The session, themed “Shaping the Future of Fintech in Nigeria: Innovation, Inclusion, and Integrity,” leveraged the cross-sector presence of fintech founders, investors, regulators, and policy leaders in Washington during the Annual Meetings. It served as a closed-door listening
“At the CBN, we are committed to creating an environment where new ideas can flourish under prudent oversight, and where inclusion is at the heart of our endeavours.
“As we embrace new technology, it is our responsibility to uphold the integrity of the financial system – maintaining strong governance, consumer protection, and risk management so that trust in our institutions remains firm,” Cardoso said.
Cardoso has emphasized the centrality of collaboration and feedback in the development of policies to support and guide the financial system and fintech ecosystem.
Participants discussed five key areas: innovation and responsible growth; infrastructure and interoperability; legal and policy enablement; compliance and financial integrity; and market confidence and sustainable capital flows.
The session concluded with commitments to continuous engagement between the CBN and fintech stakeholders to align regulatory reform with Nigeria’s broader financial innovation agenda.
