THE Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has characterized the upcoming national protest set for August 1 as politically motivated.

Wike made this remark today in Abuja during a tour of the Apo Karshi Road, asserting that the protest aims to distract Nigerians from the initiatives of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

He urged Nigerians to remain patient with the Federal Government, as plans are being developed to provide relief to the populace.

Additionally, the minister issued a seven-month deadline for contractors working on the Apo-Karshi Road to finalize the project.

Expressing his dissatisfaction with the slow progress on the road, Wike stated that the delay is largely due to individuals with personal and political agendas.

He noted that 80% of the funds allocated for the contract have already been disbursed, indicating there should be no reason for the project to remain unfinished.

The Apo-Karshi project was initiated in 2011 during President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration at an estimated cost of around N6 billion. Thirteen years later, the project, spanning over 13 kilometers, still awaits completion.
