Plateau 2026 LG Polls: PLASIEC unveils updated schedule

The Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission, PLASIEC, has issued an updated schedule for the 2026 Local Government Elections, with the polls slated for September 1, 2026.

The Chairman of PLASIEC, Plangji Cishak, disclosed this while briefing journalists at the Commission’s headquarters in Jos, the state capital, on Friday.

He emphasised that the adjustments are guided by “legal, administrative, and operational considerations,” aimed at ensuring a credible and inclusive electoral process.

“In keeping with our statutory responsibility and core values of transparency, excellence, and stakeholder inclusiveness, it has become imperative to call for this briefing to formally review very critical activities preparatory to the elections,” Cishak stated.

According to him, *“Party primaries will hold between January 12 and 30, 2026.

“Collection and submission of nomination forms will take place between February 2 and March 2, 2026.”

He added that publication of candidates’ particulars is scheduled for March 7, 2026, while screening and verification of candidates will hold from March 11 to 16, 2026.

Other activities include the publication of the final list of candidates on March 30, 2026, while campaigns will commence on March 31 and end on August 30, 2026.

Cishak urged stakeholders to engage constructively, ensuring that the public is accurately informed.
