Latep Dabang, political adviser to Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State, has resigned his appointment and rejoined the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Dabang, who once served as the Plateau APC chairman, was removed from the position in 2021 after a fallout with then-governor Simon Lalong and other party leaders.
He defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2022, where he became director-general of the party’s presidential and governorship campaign council in Plateau during the 2023 elections.
Following the PDP’s victory in the state, he was appointed as political adviser to Governor Mutfwang.
In a resignation letter dated June 30, 2025, and addressed to the governor, Dabang expressed appreciation for the opportunity to serve in the administration.
“Also, as the former director-general of the 2023 Plateau State People’s Democratic Party Presidential/Governorship Campaign Council…” the letter read in part.
Sources at the APC secretariat in Plateau confirmed that Dabang and his supporters had written to the party last month, indicating their intention to return.
The party is reportedly planning a formal reception for the returning members.
Dabang’s defection comes amid a wave of high-profile exits from the PDP in the state.
Senator Istifanus Gyang, a key figure in the PDP, recently joined the APC alongside Labour Party leaders, including Patrick Dakum, Gyang Zi (SAN), and others.
