Member representing Pankshin South Constituency in the Plateau State House of Assembly, Hon. Laven Denty Jacob, has regained freedom after being abducted by gunmen from his residence in Dong community, Jos North LGA, on Monday night.

Confirming the development on Wednesday, Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Kwarpo Sylvanus, said the lawmaker was released on Tuesday night and reunited with his family.

“He has been successfully released, but we are yet to ascertain whether any ransom was given or paid. All we know is that he was released yesterday night,” Sylvanus told reporters.

The committee chair urged residents to heighten security consciousness, stressing the need for vigilance in the face of recurring insecurity across Plateau communities.

“We appeal to residents to be security conscious and to report any suspicious behaviour around them. We also encourage the formation of vigilante groups to secure our areas given the current level of insecurity,” he said.

He commended the prompt action of security agencies and the cooperation of citizens during the incident, pledging that lawmakers would continue to push for legislation to strengthen the state’s security architecture.

The abduction of Jacob came just ten days after a corps member and a University of Jos student were kidnapped in the same community.
