PRESIDENT Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the recent violence in Plateau State, where over 40 people have lost their lives.

In a statement issued today by his special adviser on information and strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu strongly condemned the attack and extended condolences to Governor Caleb Mutfwang, the state government, and the people of Plateau.

He urged the governor to demonstrate the political will needed to resolve the crisis and restore lasting peace.

Tinubu called for unity and love among Plateau residents, emphasizing the need to look beyond religious and ethnic divisions.

He also urged community, religious, and political leaders both within and outside the state to collaborate in ending the cycle of retaliatory violence that has plagued affected communities.

“The clashes in Plateau, rooted in longstanding ethnic and religious tensions, must stop,” Tinubu said. “I have directed security agencies to investigate thoroughly and bring those responsible to justice. We cannot continue with this cycle of bloodshed—enough is enough.”

He stressed that while criminals behind the attacks must be prosecuted, the state leadership must also confront the deeper issues fueling the conflict.

“These challenges have persisted for over two decades,” he noted. “We can no longer ignore them. I’ve previously discussed these issues with Governor Mutfwang and proposed ideas for lasting peace.”

The president reaffirmed the federal government’s support for Plateau State’s efforts to promote dialogue, strengthen social cohesion, and ensure accountability as part of a long-term solution to the crisis.

Reports reveal that the death toll from today’s attack on Zike community in Kimakpa, Kwall district, Bassa Local Government Area, has risen to 51.

Several homes were also burnt down. Community leader Wakili Tongwe reported that the assailants stormed the village in the early hours, firing indiscriminately at fleeing residents.
