Pokémon Pokopia Reveals New Pokémon Variants and Professor Tangrowth

The Pokémon Company has shared some new peeks into the world of Pokémon Pokopia this week, including some new styles of the little pocket monsters we all know and love. This relaxing life simulation game, where players take on the role of a Ditto in human form, will be released on March 5, 2026, with the goal of letting us build a utopia for Pokémon and humans to live together peacefully.

Pokémon Pokopia is already unique with its shocking lore implications, allowing this Ditto in human form to not only look the part, but take on many human characteristics. Now, we see that this Ditto is not the only unique-looking Pokémon building this cozy little community. Recently, the Pokémon Pokopia website was updated, along with a new trailer, to give us a better look at four of the new variants of friends coming to the game.

Three New Pokémon Variants Coming To Pokopia

Mosslax, Peakychu, And Smearguru

Most of the Pokémon we will meet in Pokémon Pokopia will be ones we are already familiar with as they come to move into our new little Pokémon haven, but the end of the new extended trailer that the official Pokémon YouTube channel released for the game shows a couple more. Although we only received the briefest of glimpses into these new variations, it certainly adds a bit of mystery.

Peakychu is a pale, glowing version of Pokémon‘s mascot, Pikachu, with drooping ears, who almost has a ghostly appearance, but still clearly can wield electricity. Mosslax looks more like a giant bush than a Pokémon, but is in fact a Snorlax that has had moss growing all over its body and a flower on its head. Finally, we have Smearguru, a colorful version of Smeargle who has vibrant paint splattered across its body.

A New Professor Will Help Us Through This World

The Adorable Professor Tangrowth Serves As Our Pokémon Guide

Professor Tangrowth in Pokemon Pokopia

No Pokémon game would be complete without a quirky Professor figure to help guide us through our journey, and in a world that is seemingly devoid of humans, naturally, a Pokémon must step up to the job. The peculiar, yet adorable, Professor Tangrowth has been living all alone in this place where humans and Pokémon once lived, and seems to have incorporated some of the human tools into its appearance.

Professor Tangrowth is the first Pokémon we will meet, other than our own Ditto character, and will serve as our teacher as we start to rebuild the broken-down city with habitats for other Pokémon to join us. Although this will certainly be a very different Professor than we may be used to, it fits perfectly with the charm of Pokémon Pokopia.
