The Pokémon Trading Card Game has revealed its lowest pull rates ever, making it almost impossible to get a particular type of card. Pokémon put out its new Mega Evolutions set on September 26. An otherwise unremarkable set, it focuses on Mega Evolved Pokémon, with a variety of different cards in different rarities as usual.

But Mega Evolutions also contains a new card type: Mega Hyper Rare (MHR). Replacing Hyper Rare, these gold-colored cards appear to be the TCG’s rarest cards yet, with pull rates of just 1/1,260 for any Mega Evolutions card, and 1/2,520, according to TCGPlayer. That means you have a 0.08% chance of finding a MHR every time you open a pack.

Mega Evolution Set Pull Rates Have Been Revealed

And They’re Incredibly Low

TCGPlayer calculates pull rates in-house, with members of its Authentication Center personally opening 5,000 packs of Mega Evolutions to determine the rarity of all its various card types. So you can be sure that those one in 1,260 rates aren’t just a bit of Pokémon Company marketing; they really are that rare.

MHRs are by far the rarest card type in Mega Evolutions; the second rarest, Special Illustration Rares (SIRs), have a pull rate of just 1/101. That makes MHRs ten times as hard to come by.

The following table describes all the pull rates in Mega Evolutions, according to TCGPlayer. Rates are divided into “any” and “specific,” reflecting the likelihood of pulling any card of that rarity versus a specific one.

Mega Hyper Rares Have The Lowest Pull Rates Ever

& Are Prohibitively Expensive As A Result

Part of their extreme rarity is that there are only two MHR cards in the entire Pokémon TCG: Mega Lucario ex and Mega Gardevoir ex.

As a result, these cards have rapidly become the most expensive singles in Mega Evolutions. Mega Gardevoir ex starts at $400, and Mega Lucario ex could cost you anywhere from $700 to a whopping $1,299, per TCGPlayer.

Now, Mega Evolutions is still new; there’s a chance these prices will go down as the market corrects itself. More MHR cards are likely to be revealed in the future, which will help saturate the market.

Even so, unless those pull rates change, MHRs will probably remain the rarest cards in the hobby overall. They’ll likely always be a distant dream for the grand majority of Pokémon TCG players, except the unusually lucky and those with disposable funds.
