The Lagos State Police Command has arraigned a prominent member of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Samsideen Oladiti, popularly known as Shamelon, over the alleged murder of a dispatch rider.
Oladiti, 55, was arraigned on Tuesday at the Ebute Metta Magistrate Court 2 following allegations of assault and murder.
According to a statement by the Command’s Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Babaseyi Oluseyi, the suspect allegedly attacked a dispatch rider on Lagos Island on September 17, 2025, using a helmet and his fists to inflict serious injuries.
The victim was rushed to the hospital, placed on oxygen, and is still receiving treatment.
Police also linked Oladiti to a separate case of assault that led to death. On August 28, 2025, he allegedly struck another man with a metallic ring during an altercation, causing fatal injuries. Despite medical intervention, the victim was confirmed dead on September 17, 2025, with the body deposited for autopsy.
Recall on September 20, 2025, that the police arrested Oladiti in connection with the murder and assaults.
Oluseyi further disclosed that the state’s Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, intervened after sympathisers of the deceased staged a violent protest at Sandgrouse Market, Lagos Island. Protesters reportedly set two of the suspect’s motorcycles ablaze, sparking unrest in the area.
