The Police, on Friday, arraigned 37-year-old Olaniyi Jamiu before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged stealing.

The Police, on Friday, arraigned 37-year-old Olaniyi Jamiu before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged stealing.

The defendant, of no fixed address, is standing trial on a one-count charge of stealing.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendant, and others at large, committed the offence at about 5:15am on Aug. 16 in Ado-Ekiti.

He alleged that the defendant and his accomplices unlawfully conspired to steal some goats and were apprehended while trying to perform the act.

According to him, the offence contravened Section 421 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

He urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him to study the case file and assemble his witnesses.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.

Counsel for the defendant, Mr Michael Olaleye, urged the court to grant the defendant bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Abayomi Adeosun, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.

He adjourned the case to September 22 for hearing. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
