WATCH THE VIDEO HERE On the 18th February, 2025, swift action by vigilant security operatives and alert residents of Eke Ovoko Market led to the dramatic capture of two phone theft suspects who attempted to steal cash from a shop in Ovoko, Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area of Enugu State. The suspects, identified as Johnson Okafor (Owen) from Amokwe-Akwuzu in Oyi LGA, Anambra State, and Emmanuel Chigozie from Orodo, Mbaitoli LGA, Imo State, had been on a brazen crime spree. Posing as customers, they entered a shop where a young girl was attending to sales. As she reached for an item, one of them snatched a bundle of cash from the counter and they attempted to flee on a motorcycle. But their escape plan failed; the brave young girl screamed for help, alerting security men and market traders who swiftly mobilized and intercepted them before they could disappear. The Igbo-Eze South Special Squad, a formidable security task force comprising the Enugu State Forest Guard and the Enugu State Neighbourhood Watch, with swift coordination, ensured the suspects were prevented from being lynched by the angry mob and promptly took them into custody for further investigation. Upon interrogation by the Igbo-Eze South Special Squad, the criminals confessed to a string of thefts earlier yesterday. They admitted to starting their operation from Okuzu Junction in Anambra State, passing through Orji River, where they stole three smartphones from a container shop used for commercial phone charging. They had also robbed a tailor’s shop in Ovoko before their final failed attempt. Thanks to the rapid response of security forces, the suspects were apprehended and immediately handed over to the police to ensure they face the full wrath of the law. This swift crackdown highlights the unyielding commitment of the Executive Chairman of Igbo-Eze South LGA and Deputy Chairman of ALGON Enugu State, Barr. Ugo Ferdinand Ukwueze, in ensuring criminals have no hiding place in the area. His administration’s zero-tolerance stance on crime and proactive security measures have continued to make Igbo-Eze South a dangerous place for criminals. Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah’s dedication to security in Enugu State is yielding tangible results. Under his leadership, the state’s security architecture has been significantly strengthened, empowering local governments to combat crime more effectively. With such decisive governance and community vigilance, criminals will find no refuge in Igbo-Eze South or anywhere in Enugu State. #ProgressAgenda
