The Federal Capital Territory Police (FCT) Command has arrested a 32-year-old man, Ahmed Abubakar, for allegedly planning to deliver 1,000 rounds of ammunition to bandits operating in Zamfara State.
The FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Miller G. Dantawaye, disclosed this on Wednesday, December 10, while briefing journalists at the Command Headquarters in Abuja.
According to him, Abubakar was arrested on Monday around 3:30 p.m. by the command’s tactical team following credible intelligence.
He explained that the suspect was intercepted at Unguwar Dodo in the Gwagwalada Area Council of the FCT.
Dantawaye noted that preliminary investigations showed that Abubakar had been in constant communication with an associate identified as Yusuf Mohammed.
The suspect, he said, was allegedly preparing to procure and convey 1,000 rounds of ammunition to a forest in Zamfara, where the bandits are believed to be operating.
“And our investigation further revealed that he was sent by his uncle, one Ahmed Yakubu, who is believed to be a key accomplice and currently at large, to purchase and transport the ammunition for criminal elements operating within their locality in Zamfara,” the CP added.
The commissioner confirmed that the suspect is currently in custody as efforts intensify to track down the fleeing accomplice and dismantle the criminal network involved.
He reaffirmed the command’s resolve to rid the FCT and surrounding areas of crime, assuring residents of continued security operations.
