The Kano State Police Command has arrested Ididiong James, a 25-year-old man, over an alleged assault on his mother and unlawful possession of an English Beretta pistol with eight rounds of ammunition.
The arrest was disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday in Kano by Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, police public relations officer.
According to the statement, the incident occurred on January 25, 2026, at about 7:30 pm, when officers from the Panshekara Division responded to a distress call at a residence in Panshekara Quarters.
The suspect reportedly fled the scene on the arrival of the police, but his mother handed over the pistol and ammunition, stating that she had found them in her son’s bag and had refused to return them to him.
She also noted that her son’s behaviour had changed after returning from a New Year celebration.
James was later arrested and is currently in police custody. The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended the mother for her courage and advised parents to closely monitor their children.
“The actions of this mother are commendable, and we appreciate her bravery in standing up against her son’s violent behavior,” CP Bakori said.
